Outbreak of IP Creativity: From Cultural Empowerment to Global Premium

The core competitiveness of trendy toys lies in IP, and China is ushering in an outbreak period of original IP. This creativity stems not only from the reserve of design talents but also from profound cultural heritage and accurate market insight. Different from overseas trendy toys that mostly rely on anime and film IP derivatives, Chinese trendy toy brands have taken two characteristic paths: first, focusing on original image IP, establishing deep connections with consumers through continuous design iteration and emotional operation, making images without story backgrounds popular. For example, the Molly series has maintained market vitality for 19 years, and LABUBU plush toys are priced as high as 27.99 US dollars in the US market, with a premium of over 100% compared to domestic prices, still triggering overnight queues for purchases; second, activating traditional cultural IP, transforming cultural symbols such as Sanxingdui, Dunhuang, and the Palace Museum into modern trendy toy language, which not only avoids homogeneous competition but also endows products with unique cultural added value, realizing the two-way empowerment of "tradition and trend".
The influx of capital has further boosted the release of IP creativity. In the first half of 2025, enterprises such as CardFun and 52TOYS submitted listing applications in clusters, and the valuation of trendy toy brands in the secondary market has increased significantly, with the price-earnings ratio of second-tier brands rising from 8 times in 2024 to 15 times. Enterprises such as Quantum Song and Wanda Films have laid out the trendy toy track through mergers, acquisitions, and investments, providing financial and resource support for IP development. The combination of capital and creativity has enabled Chinese trendy toy IP to get rid of the short-term logic of "traffic monetization" in the early stage, turn to long-term "value creation", and gradually form a globally influential IP matrix.
